About the role
The Medical Technology Student is responsible for performing, under supervision, technical laboratory procedures on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient specimens to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Procedures are performed in the assigned Laboratory section, such as Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Diagnostic Immunology, Hematology or Toxicology.
Responsibilities
- Performs and reports results on technical laboratory procedures on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and animal customers under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.
- Performs under supervision, preventative and routine maintenance, quality control tests as indicated by department policies.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
Requirements
- Required - Currently enrolled in a college program
- Preferred - No prior work experience
Qualifications
- Required - Laboratory Trainee work permit
- Tennessee Department of Health - Medical Laboratory Board
Skills
- Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as laboratory reports
- Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual perception
- Ability to communicate verbally with Associates and physicians
