Rural Health Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) position focused on performing routine clinical laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, and coagulation. Follows established standards and practices to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease through analysis of blood, body fluids, and tissues.
Responsibilities
- Make decisions concerning sample collection and handling.
- Perform daily instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Conduct sample testing and collect/interpret data.
- Maintain accurate records and report data, including critical values.
- Follow established standards and practices for quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies as requested by physicians.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors across all age groups (neonate to geriatric).
- Perform patient access activities, including:
- Collecting and documenting correct demographic and billing information.
- Maintaining an accurate cash drawer and issuing receipts.
- Managing daily deposits.
- Assisting with scheduling, rescheduling, and confirming appointments.
- Maintaining orderly patient flow through reception and lobby areas.
- Dispose of biohazard waste according to state standards.
- Maintain OSHA requirements and practice OSHA standards.
- Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
- Adhere to Rural Health Clinic Standards for Corporate Compliance, Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Equipment Maintenance, Quality, and Regulatory Management.
- Assist in obtaining and maintaining Rural Health Clinic certification.
- Use innovative and creative solutions to manage challenges in the Rural Health Clinic.
- Leverage knowledge of community resources and adapt to available resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a laboratory-related science with completion of an approved technical training program.
- 1–3 years’ experience in a hospital laboratory.
- MLT registry through ASCP.
