MLT II-Hematology Oncology Lab SMC

About the role

Perform routine clinical laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, and coagulation following established standards and practices. Analyze blood, body fluids, and tissues to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities

• Make decisions concerning sample collection and handling
• Perform daily instrument maintenance and quality control
• Conduct sample testing and collect and interpret data
• Maintain accurate records and report data
• Understand and communicate critical values
• Follow established standards and practices for quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies
• Provide and understand specific communication, developmental, and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors across all age groups (neonate to geriatric)
• Comply with Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations
• Troubleshoot technical issues
• Maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information
• Maintain credentials and licensure
• Complete training and maintain competency in limited Highly Infectious Disease Testing procedures
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, technical service matters, and patient education

Requirements

• Associate degree in Laboratory Science
• 1-3 years' experience in a hospital laboratory
• MLT registry through ASCP
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or equivalent effort (pushing, pulling)
• Ability to withstand stress and demands of an active position
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and sit for extensive periods
• Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, adequate vision, and hearing
• Ability to perform accurately and efficiently in any situation
• Ability to make decisions and use appropriate judgment
• Ability to utilize complex instrumentation
• Ability to cooperate as a team member with positive interactions
• Ability to work irregular/flexible hours
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
• Pass a color vision test

Work Environment

• Moderate exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and/or low-level radiation
• Work at counters of 36-inch height
