Medical Lab Tech II MLT II

About the role

Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT II) provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with limited supervision. The MLT's job includes preparing samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results in a timely manner to enable clinicians to utilize the data when making treatment decisions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare samples for examination
• Operate automated equipment and specialized instrumentation
• Perform multiple complex tests simultaneously and accurately
• Interpret test results promptly
• Complete training in at least two additional rotations as required by the hospital
• Complete a promotion project approved by the career ladder committee
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate degree in chemical science, biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
• National Registry for Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) preferred; must be registry eligible
• Successfully meets all standards of a MLT I
• At least 12 months of clinical lab experience
• Works efficiently under supervision of experienced personnel

Skills

• Language, math, and reasoning skills for data analysis, interpretation, and valid conclusions during data collection and mechanical or scientific procedures
• Good communication skills with the public and hospital staff
