MK1 HW/SW Integration and Test Automation Engineer
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
About the role
As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of engineers and technicians, you will build and maintain the automated test infrastructure that powers hardware/software integration for the MK1 Lunar Lander. You will develop the harnesses, simulator interfaces, and automated test execution that let integration campaigns run reliably and repeatably in the Vehicle Test Bed (VTB) and Software Integration Lab (SIL) across multiple MK1 vehicle configurations. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention toward safe human spaceflight.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks for HW/SW integration testing in the VTB/HIL and SIL
- Develop and maintain hardware-in-the-loop interfaces, including simulator to hardware signal paths and data acquisition
- Automate test execution, data collection, and post-test data reduction so campaigns run repeatably across multiple vehicle configurations
- Integrate automated tests into the CI pipeline; develop post-run invariants and checks that catch regressions early
- Partner with integration engineers to translate test plans into automated, reusable test cases and scenario overrides
- Support VTB/HIL infrastructure bring-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
- Maintain configuration control of test scripts, tooling, and infrastructure artifacts
- Investigate and resolve test infrastructure anomalies, driving root cause and corrective actions to closure
Requirements
- B.S. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related technical degree
- 4+ years of experience in test automation, software development, or HW/SW integration for complex avionics or embedded systems
- Proficiency in Python and scripting for test automation and data analysis
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop test environments, real-time systems, or data acquisition systems
- Familiarity with software interfaces and protocols common to avionics (e.g., Ethernet, serial, CAN, MIL-STD-1553)
- Strong problem investigation and debugging skills in an integrated lab environment
- Solid understanding of configuration management and version control principles
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related technical degree
- Experience building HIL or SIL test frameworks for avionics verification
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated regression testing
- Experience with simulation environments and scenario-based testing
- Experience integrating propulsion or engine control systems in an integrated lab environment
- Experience on a development spaceflight program
