Mission Operations Specialist

About the role

The constellation team at WindBorne Systems is seeking an experienced operator to oversee end-to-end operational performance across a rotating set of projects. This role involves a diverse range of responsibilities including managing military exercises, coordinating the deployment of new hardware, identifying and addressing recurring issues, and responding to unexpected events such as tropical storms.

Responsibilities

• Run point on military exercises, coordinating with engineering on tech readiness, manufacturing on hardware volume, and the Flight Control team on in-flight priorities, then closing the loop with the customer on results
• Coordinate the operational rollout of new hardware, such as ocean sensing buoys or radio ground stations
• Identify recurring bugs that affect performance constellation-wide
• Oversee the constellation’s response to newly-appeared tropical storms, gathering the most interesting data while ensuring avoidance of other meteorological aircraft in the region, and creating visualizations of findings and communicating them to others
• Travel all over the world to carry out unusual operations, such as slogging through a swamp in Alabama to recover a balloon, or setting up a temporary launch site on an island in rural Scotland

Qualifications

• Experience in project management or operations
• Technical skills in balloons, atmospheric science, radio, and defense technology
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders
• Comfort working in remote and challenging environments
