Missile Defense System Architecture Engineer
About the role
AeroVironment is seeking a Missile Defense System Architecture Engineer to lead or participate in the analysis of future Missile Defense System (MDS) architectures and concepts, as well as modeling and simulation (M&S) tool development to support MDS architecture assessment.
Responsibilities
- Assess MDS capability gaps, challenges, needs, and opportunities against current and future threats to develop potential architecture solutions that mitigate gaps and/or improve performance.
- Assist with the development of analysis plans, execute MDS simulation tools utilizing DoD High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, assess analysis results, prepare analysis briefs/reports, and provide reviews of analysis products.
- Support modeling & simulation (M&S) efforts to tailor tools to specific analysis plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.
- 7+ years of experience in missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program/project.
- Active Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
- Solid understanding of the current MDS architecture and future concepts.
- Experience in modeling, assessment, and evaluation of future missile defense architectures.
- Experience with MATLAB.
- U.S. person status under ITAR and/or EAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI Clearance.
- Experience with the definition and use of advanced concepts and algorithms for the M&S of MDS architectures.
- Experience with M&S and analysis of MDS architectures involving both directed and kinetic energy weapons and other future concepts.
- Experience with HPC Systems, Python, and Git.
- Experience with BMD Benchmark.
- Experience supporting systems engineering-related architecture design activities.
- Ability to perform technology assessment & analysis and provide insight on the utility of potentially useful technologies.
- Specialized MDS analysis experience in: threat characterization, trajectories, RF sensing/signatures, and/or EO/IR sensing/signatures.
- MBSE experience related to missile defense system architectures.
