Miscellaneous Professional Liability - Underwriter
Victor Insurance is seeking a Senior Underwriter to help launch and grow a new Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL) program. This role will focus on underwriting and managing a diversified book of professional liability business, shaping underwriting strategy, and supporting profitable portfolio growth in a dynamic, build-stage environment.

The Senior Underwriter will play a highly visible role with the opportunity to influence product development, underwriting guidelines, distribution strategy, and long-term program performance. Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal Miscellaneous Professional Liability risks in accordance with program guidelines, authority, and profitability targets.
- Evaluate submissions, including applications, financials, loss runs, contracts, and other underwriting data, to determine acceptability of risk.
- Select, price, structure, quote, bind, and manage MPL accounts with a focus on disciplined underwriting and sustainable growth.
- Partner with leadership to develop and refine underwriting appetite, guidelines, coverage positions, pricing strategy, and workflow for the new program.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail broker partners to drive submission flow and market presence.
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers while balancing production goals and underwriting discipline.
- Monitor portfolio performance, rate adequacy, loss trends, and industry developments to identify opportunities and emerging issues.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, legal, operations, product, and compliance partners to support program development and execution.
- Provide underwriting mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members as the program grows.
- Assist with product enhancement, coverage wording review, and competitive market analysis.
- Ensure adherence to internal underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and delegated authority protocols.
- Maintain accurate underwriting files, documentation, and data quality within policy administration and workflow systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 7 to 15+ years of underwriting experience in professional liability, with meaningful experience in Miscellaneous Professional Liability or adjacent E&O lines.
- Demonstrated ability to underwrite complex professional liability risks and make independent decisions within authority.
- Strong knowledge of MPL coverage forms, policy structure, rating considerations, and claims drivers.
- Experience building or scaling books of business, products, or programs is strongly preferred.
- Established broker relationships and proven ability to develop business in a competitive market.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and portfolio management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving priorities.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, Microsoft Office, and data-driven decision-making tools.
Preferred Experience
- Experience underwriting a broad range of miscellaneous professional classes, such as consultants, staffing firms, marketing/media firms, and other service-oriented businesses.
- Familiarity with program business, delegated authority environments, or MGA/MGU platforms.
- Experience contributing to product design, filing support, or underwriting guideline development.

Pay
The applicable base salary range for this role is $88,200 to $187,900. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Schedule
This role follows a hybrid work model, with the expectation of being in the local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.
