Mining Equipment Mechanic

Essential Duties

• Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, greasing, and replacing components on a scheduled basis.
• Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair, and rebuild as necessary.
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and any rebuilds.
• Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
• Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have harmful effect.
• Perform job duties following MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
• Fuel and lube equipment.
• Operate the equipment to diagnose problems and test and operate after repair.
• Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site.
• Maintain shop area with proper housekeeping for a safe work environment.
• Ensure vehicles and tools are clean and properly maintained.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

  Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • A strong work ethic with effective communication skills.
  • A background in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including the ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals.
  • Knowledge of mechanical components such as engine, transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, and skills in diagnosing malfunctions.
  • Rotating shift work is required, and must be able to work up to 12-hour shifts.

  Education And Training

  • Two years of maintenance experience or a technical degree is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must pass the necessary written and practical tests for this position.
