About the role

The Aggregates and Mine Planning Manager is a support role for our aggregate operations in a regional US Market based in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kentucky, Arizona, and Nevada. This position offers a wide variety of responsibilities, including mine planning, assessment of greenfield and M&A geologic due diligence, and optimization of local mining operations. Additionally, the Aggregate and Mine Planning Manager will work closely with regional operations and land teams to assist with reserve replacement planning.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and maintain 3D geologic models of sand & gravel sites and crushed stone quarries (experience with Vulcan or Carlson preferred).
  • Short-, mid-, and long-term mine planning, including life-of-mine plans and stripping programs.
  • Assist with greenfield and new site development.
  • Design and manage drill programs.
  • Design and enhance quarry safety for site configuration, pit design, and geotechnical safety.
  • Help identify and analyze market areas that are strategic to the regional business and have favorable geologic characteristics.
  • Generate necessary plans and technical illustrations to effectively communicate mine, stripping plans, and reclamation plans to operational staff (experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS is a plus).
  • Support the acquisition of mining permits and manage related projects within budget and time constraints.
  • Observe and track mining conditions and practices for continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical assistance and cost analyses for special projects.
  • Assist with safety training, recordkeeping, and managing crews as needed.
  • Assist with conducting stockpile assessments and providing annual updates on site conditions.
  • Conduct regular geotechnical surveys to identify and mitigate hazards, and work with operations management to resolve.
  • Work closely with operations management, environmental, and land departments, and external consultants.
  • Expert oral and written communication skills - ability to concisely explain concepts and outcomes to all levels of management.
  • Coordinate and assist with periodic mine plan reviews for updating and revision with all major stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Up-to-date MSHA training is a plus.
  • S-K 1300 Qualified Person Designation is desired.
  • Proficiency in 3D mining software, preferably Carlson and Maptek Vulcan packages.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with mining methods and appropriate planning.
  • Knowledge of industrial geology pertaining to aggregates, including drill hole logs, bedrock geology, and QAQC specifications.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and proper use of approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including respirators where applicable.
