Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, and established work procedures.
- Carry out workplace examinations and ensure hazards are identified, communicated, and corrected.
- Lead by example in safe work practices and hold crew members accountable for compliance.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Plan, organize, and schedule maintenance activities for the assigned shift.
- Cook up maintenance resources to support continuous miner section production goals.
- Prioritize repair work based on safety, operational impact, and equipment availability.
- Maintain maintenance progress and adjust priorities to address changing conditions or equipment failures.
- Ensure repairs are completed correctly and equipment is returned to service in a safe and reliable condition.
- Coordinate parts, tools, and manpower to support efficient maintenance operations.
- Direct, supervise, and support underground maintenance personnel during assigned shifts.
- Assign work, establish expectations, and monitor performance.
- Coach, mentor, and task-train employees to improve skill development and job performance.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and professional communication among maintenance crews.
- Ensure adequate coverage and labor resources are available to support operational needs.
- Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment status, and operational needs to the Maintenance Manager and operations leadership.
- Maintain effective communication between maintenance crews, production personnel, and management.
- Document completed work, pending repairs, and equipment issues requiring follow-up.
- Provide thorough shift turnover reports to ensure continuity between crews.
- Monitor the condition and performance of continuous miner section equipment, belt systems, power centers, and related support equipment.
- Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Verify equipment readiness before shift change and ensure critical issues are communicated for follow-up.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of underground coal mine maintenance experience on a continuous miner section.
- Current MSHA Foreman Certificate.
- Current Underground Electrical Certification.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise maintenance personnel in an underground mining environment.
- Strong troubleshooting, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work a rotating schedule of five (5) eight-hour shifts on a two-week rotation, including day, swing, and graveyard shifts.
- Previous supervisory or lead maintenance experience in underground coal mining.
- Experience with continuous miners, shuttle cars, roof bolters, conveyors, power centers, and associated underground mining equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Work performed primarily in an underground coal mine environment.
- Frequent walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, varying temperatures, and underground mine conditions.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and perform the essential functions of the position safely.
