About the role
MetLife Investment Management’s Residential Whole Loans strategy is designed for institutional investors, including insurers, seeking consistent income and capital-efficient exposure to private residential mortgage credit. With a platform built on data-driven credit analysis, deep market relationships, and flexible structuring, MIM offers a differentiated approach to all loan types.
Responsibilities
- Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities, including in-depth analysis on portfolios of residential assets, asset-based lending opportunities, structured debt, specialty finance companies, and financial institutions; work with and manage third-party diligence providers to facilitate the review and closing of transactions
- Evaluate investment opportunities across Non-QM / DSCR, 2nd Liens / HELOCs, MSR, Bridge / RTL, Manufactured Housing, and other residential asset classes
- Analyze and underwrite potential investments by reviewing historical performance data (e.g., prepayment, default, and recovery data, as well as other key information depending on the transaction), developing cash flow projection models, and performing investment analyses; model underlying asset cash flows across asset classes and create sensitivity and comparable analyses to assess the relative risk and value of potential investments
- Auxiliary in preparing investment committee memos, diligence memos, and other investment analyses
- Ensure the quality, completeness, and accuracy of analyses and other deliverables associated with investment decisions
- Absorb and assess non-economic, legal documentation risks and review and comment on transaction documentation (term sheets, purchase and servicing agreements, credit agreements, etc.)
- Monitor positions on an ongoing basis and perform quarterly valuations of investments
- Interface and negotiate with external counterparties
Requirements
- Superior valuation, modeling, and Excel skills evaluating financial assets
- Strong accounting, finance, modeling, and problem-solving skills
- Keen interest in the financial markets and good commercial instincts
- Strong sense of urgency; ability to execute quickly and efficiently with attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a high growth, iterative environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-4 years of Finance or Investment Banking experience within a Structured Finance or Financial Institutions focused group or similar buyside experience
- Experience underwriting, structuring, and reviewing residential whole loan pools, asset-backed securitizations, and private asset-backed credit facilities
- Intex, VBA, Python, and Snowflake/SQL proficiency is preferred but not mandatory
