About the role

Millwrights are skilled mechanics specializing in working with machined or fabricated metal. They typically work in industrial settings, focusing on the teardown and rebuilding of power generation turbines and generators at power plants or industrial sites.

Responsibilities

• Work in demanding environments, managing heavy tools and machinery
• Perform work in high heat and humidity in summer months, and below zero temperatures in winter months
• Work inside power plants or industrial operations where temperatures can be exacerbated by adjacent equipment and steam
• Work at elevated levels or platforms, requiring climbing stairs and ladders
• Manage 25 lb sledgehammers and operate forklifts or overhead cranes
• Work in OSHA-defined confined spaces and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Travel to customer sites

Requirements

• Education and certifications including use of hand tools, precision measurement tools, rigging and crane certification
• Typically 10 years of hands-on experience supplemented by formal training
• Physical demands such as lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, working in tight spaces, and operating power tools and forklifts
• Comfortable working in OSHA-defined confined spaces and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs. in situations where footing may be uneven and clearance may be minimal
• Must be able to bend over, stoop, and perform work in tight spaces
• Must be able to operate power tools and forklifts
• Must be able to wear a tight-fitting half or full-face respirator with medical qualification when necessary

Skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and precision measurement tools
• Rigging and crane certification
• Ability to work in demanding environments and manage heavy tools and machinery
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and personal protective equipment
• Ability to work in confined spaces and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
