About the role
Millwrights are skilled mechanics specializing in working with machined or fabricated metal. They typically work in industrial settings and handle rotating equipment. At MLS, our focus is on the teardown and rebuilding of power generation turbines and generators found at power plants or industrial sites.
Responsibilities
- Work in demanding environments, including high heat and humidity in summer and below zero temperatures in winter.
- Manage heavy tools and machinery, including lifting up to 50 lbs. in awkward positions and bending over, stooping, and working in tight spaces.
- Handle large and heavy equipment weighing up to 100 lbs., often requiring two millwrights to move it into place.
- Operate power tools and forklifts/cranes as needed.
- Work in confined spaces and may need to wear protective gear such as respirators and safety harnesses.
- Work irregular hours, including extended periods of 30+ consecutive days during customer outages, and may work day or night shifts.
- Travel to customer sites for work.
Requirements
- Education and certifications include use of hand tools, precision measurement tools, rigging, and crane certification.
- Most A-class millwrights have 10 years of hands-on experience.
- Physical demands include lifting, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and handling heavy equipment.
- Must be comfortable working in extreme temperatures and in confined spaces.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal training through trades schools or employer-sponsored classroom curriculum.
- Experience in the field, typically gained through 10 years of hands-on experience.
Skills
- Proficiency with hand tools and precision measurement tools.
- Rigging and crane certification.
- Ability to work in demanding and physically demanding environments.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations.
