Millwright Journeyman

At PNNL, our core capabilities are divided among major departments called Directorates, each focused on a specific area of scientific research or function. The Operational Systems Directorate (OSD) leads PNNL’s 10-year, $1.2 billion campus construction portfolio—the largest in the Laboratory’s history. OSD oversees operations, facility services, maintenance, and infrastructure planning, with nearly 800 staff spanning disciplines such as craftspeople, engineers, construction professionals, technicians, scientists, administrators, and specialists. The directorate manages over $250 million in annual budget authority, 2.5 million square feet of facility space, 200 regulatory program areas, and a multi-million-dollar facility and infrastructure project portfolio.

The Facilities & Infrastructure Operations (F&IO) Division operates and maintains PNNL’s buildings, grounds, and utilities. The F&IO team includes plant engineering, fabrication, craft services, duplicating and mail services, facility program support, relocations, and receiving, with approximately 363 staff, including over 250 bargaining unit (union) employees.

About the role

This is a bargaining unit position under the Battelle/HAMTC Collective Bargaining Agreement. As a condition of employment, unless exempted, the staff member will be required to join the appropriate union affiliated with the Hanford Metal Trades Council (HAMTC) after 30 days of continuous service and pay union dues or agency fees.

Responsibilities

• Perform all types of repairs, including layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of machinery and equipment.
• Test, diagnose, repair, and maintain machinery and equipment.
• Operate power-driven tools such as drill presses, hack saws, and related equipment.
• Work to close tolerances and direct others.
• Work near hazardous materials and dangerous waste.
• Safely and effectively utilize all tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Two years of experience at the journeyman level and the ability to qualify as a full journeyman with the appropriate union affiliated with HAMTC (must be reflected in the submitted resume).
• Valid state-issued driver’s license.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate of a 4-year formal apprentice program.
• Facility and equipment maintenance experience.
• Refrigeration Certification.
• Welding skills.
• Skilled in utilizing electronic work request systems/tracking for tablets or smartphones.

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment: Job assignments may involve working near hazardous materials and dangerous waste.

Testing Designated Position: This is not a Testing Designated Position (TDP).

Pay

Bargaining Unit Weekly Pay: $2,151.76 (USD).
