About the role
Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a skilled Millwright to join our team at our Silver Creek, MS facility. The mill employs approximately 150 team members and plays a key role in our lumber production operations. As a Millwright, you will ensure that all production-related machinery and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Responsibilities
- Champion a culture of reliability within the maintenance department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision-making and encouraging proactive maintenance strategies.
- Use proper tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
- Repair or replace belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts in a production environment.
- Monitor and inventory spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment, initiating reorders as necessary.
- Perform metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when required.
- Repair or replace hydraulic units, oiling units, and equipment (chains/sprockets).
- Operate a forklift, mobile crane, or other rolling stock occasionally.
- Communicate regularly with co-workers and management to address maintenance issues.
- Review plant equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, solve problems proactively, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Follow safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Respond to repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or HR/Safety Manager.
- Perform additional plant-related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a millwright.
- Maintenance experience in a lumber, manufacturing, or other industrial environment.
- Ability to understand, communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, independently or as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Must pass a mechanical knowledge test and hands-on assessment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to make decisions quickly using hand, eye, and foot coordination.
Physical Requirements
- Perform tasks such as walking, climbing steps/ladders, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
- Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to work outside in all conditions, in and around loud equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.
Pay
$29.50–$36.62 per hour
