The Millwright is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance to keep the feed mill/grain elevator running. This position will also install new equipment and alter existing equipment as directed.
Pay
Up to $27.95/hr based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Works safely according to Smithfield procedures and guidance.
- Performs daily preventive and light corrective maintenance, with knowledge of procedures and frequencies on all mill equipment, including proper lubrication selection and amounts.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses feed mill/grain elevator equipment problems and assists in the planning, performance, and assignment of proper repair.
- Performs proper maintenance and adjustment of bag house filtering devices.
- Diagnoses and repairs scales and load cells.
- Responsible for complying with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield subscribes.
- Reports all environmental issues immediately to the feed mill/grain elevator manager.
- Reads and understands the company’s emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ years relevant experience and/or training, required.
- Able to read, write, and speak English and follow instructions.
- Able to work weekends and holidays.
- Forklift and Bobcat certification preferred.
- Welding and electrical skills required, including 3-phase (480 volts).
- Knowledge of PLC automation.
- Basic computer skills.
- General knowledge of mechanical equipment.
- Must be supportive of the mission of producing high-quality pellet feed.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- The feed mill/grain elevator environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
