Mill Technical Assistant

The Opportunity

The Mill Technical Assistant (Sr. Specialist, Mfg Ops) supports the Evadale Mill operations within the Consumer Mills Division. They report directly to the Sr Manager Technical for the facility. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing process optimization by working directly with mill operations to drive projects for safety/environmental, quality, production efficiency, cost reduction.
• Supporting the Performance Excellence effort at the Smurfit WestRock Evadale TX Mill through continuous improvement and problem-solving processes like RCA, Lean-Six Sigma Tools and Methodology.
• Leading or facilitating significant improvement projects within the Texas facilities or joint projects requiring collaboration with other business functions.
• Engaging in cross-department and even cross-division projects as assigned, focusing on operations areas to support KPIs and participating in cross-functional initiatives.

What You Need To Succeed

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering – Chemical, Mechanical or Paper Science preferred
• 5 – 7 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment in engineering, process improvement or related technical capacity
• Paper or similar industry experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated skills in planning and organizing work, and time management for multiple assignments
• Strong team skills in various roles – lead, mentor, participant
• Prior process project experience or operational experience is desired
• Experience in the use of structured problem-solving methodologies like Lean-Six sigma is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor others in a classroom or informal setting
• MS Office skills to include Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.
