Mill Operator Trainee

About the Location

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The operation includes a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator producing copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

The nearby community of Silver City offers restaurants, arts, entertainment, cliff dwellings, festivals, and more. Residents and visitors enjoy four mild seasons, 300 days of sunshine per year, and low humidity. The area provides unique shopping, groceries, schools, housing, and numerous other amenities.

Responsibilities

• Make guided decisions to support the primary objective of safe production
• Maintain and operate concentrator equipment
• Perform detailed inspections of operating equipment and operational areas
• Assist with maintenance activities
• Complete area housekeeping duties
• Learn and understand basic metallurgical milling principles
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• Three (3) months of work experience
• Completed academic and practical competencies (including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable)
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills, including passing a written assessment based on skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety
• Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and safety standards
• Knowledge of milling, crushing, and conveying equipment, including operating parameters, limits, and functionality
• Willingness to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation
• Ability to pass a medical exam and required training/testing

Pay

The estimated pay range for this role is $21.00 - $27.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
