Mill Operator

Shift Schedule

2nd shift: Monday‑Friday, 3 pm – 11 pm OR 3rd shift: Saturday‑Thursday, 11 pm – 7 am.

Pay

$22‑$24 per hour plus a $2.50 per hour shift differential.

Responsibilities

• Operate and adjust two pellet mills.
• Perform quality‑control testing of finished pellets.
• Test incoming raw material and mix moisture content.
• Change pellet mill rolls using an overhead hoist.
• Conduct routine process inspections to identify issues.
• Measure and record durability, volume of fines, pellet diameter, and perform soak tests to meet PFI standards.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, spot fires, and hot bearings.
• Maintain pellet mill feed rates and adjust or change rolls/dies as needed.
• Keep the work area clean by clearing sawdust piles around the mill room.
• Test mix and finished pellet structure.
• Visually assess silo volume and report to the loader operator.
• Assist packaging, loader, and other operators on the shift.
• Collect and verify shift operator reports; complete daily Shift Summary Reports.
• Report and monitor incidents, accidents, and maintenance requests.
• Lead by example with strong attendance, work ethic, positive attitude, professionalism, and a safety‑first mentality.
• Participate in down‑day repairs and cleaning of the process.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Working knowledge of all aspects of the production process.
• High degree of technical and analytical skills.
• Forklift certification (must be able to obtain).
• Ability to lift up to 80 lb safely, work at waist height, and stand up to 12 hours per day.
• Ability to use catwalks and climb ladders up to 30 feet high.
• Mechanical and troubleshooting skills for pellet mill maintenance.
• Basic math calculation ability.
• Comfort working in high temperature/humidity environments and confined spaces.
