Milk Preparation Technician - Children's Inpatient Milk Lab - PT Evenings with Benefits (11am-7:30pm)

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties necessary to ensure breast milk, donor milk, and infant formulas are prepared accurately and efficiently.
• Coordinate all daily activities of the milk room under the direction of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Dietitian.
• Calculate, prepare, and deliver feeding orders.
• Comply with all Hackensack University Medical Center and NICU policies and regulations for the operation of the milk room.
• Accurately calculate, prepare, and dispense the ordered volume of human milk, formula, and additives.
• Use correct techniques to measure liquids and solids; follow established procedures and recipes for calculating human milk and formula.
• Appropriately label prepared human milk and formula bottles.
• Receive breast milk and maintain documentation of receipt and storage.
• Collect human milk from fridges/freezers in the unit and rotate all breast milk in freezer using FIFO (First In, First Out) unless otherwise indicated by Dietitian and/or Lactation Consultant.
• Collect daily feeding orders for each baby and print accurate labels for each feeding.
• Calculate amounts of fresh and frozen human milk required for a 12-hour period for each baby.
• Deliver prepared feedings to designated location.
• Inventory lab supplies, formulas, and enteral feeding equipment; maintain necessary par levels and monitor expiration of products and formulas.
• Maintain inventory of donor milk.
• Follow aseptic technique and infection control policies/practices, regulatory agency requirements (including OSHA and HAACP plan) for formula and human milk preparation.
• Maintain a clean work area and ensure equipment is in working order; take action when problems are identified.
• Monitor recipes, preparation, and labeling for accuracy.
• Discuss milk volume with mothers as needed and communicate abnormal ranges to the Dietitian and/or Lactation Consultant.
• Communicate with nurses, medical staff, and dietitian regarding discrepancies with feeding orders, storage, or administration.
• May conduct in-services and participate in orientation and training of staff.
• May participate in development and measurement of outcomes for the NICU, including quality assurance reports.
• Maintain competence of required skills and current knowledge by participating in on-site and external training programs.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Adhere to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of computers.
• Good mathematical skills.

Preferred

• Associate's degree in nutrition, food service, or a related field.
• 6–12 months of clinical work experience.
• Knowledge of EPIC clinical system.

Pay

Minimum rate of $21.73 per hour. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
