Military DoD SkillBridge Program - Advanced Aircraft Engine Mechanic

This position is part of the Military DoD SkillBridge program, an opportunity for Service members to gain civilian work experience through industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners for real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Participants receive military compensation and benefits while training full-time with approved partners, such as GE Aerospace, and are not eligible for additional compensation from GE Aerospace.

About the Role

Perform complete assembly, disassembly, test setup, adjustment, and inspection of aircraft engines and major components in accordance with engineering instructions, specifications, and drawings. Set up and operate standard and specialized tools, including balance machines for various balancing operations.

Service members with a minimum of 2 years of experience as aircraft aviation mechanics or equivalent military experience may be a strong fit for this role.

Responsibilities

• Perform operations necessary for the assembly and disassembly of engines, components, and accessories following technical or standard work practices.
• Conduct comprehensive examinations of hardware for serviceability and airworthiness certification.
• Provide routing and movement of assemblies, hardware, tooling, and materials in support of assigned areas.
• Operate balance equipment and perform functional component and accessory tests as assigned.
• Troubleshoot in-process problems, malfunctions, or component failures within the limitations of relevant technical procedures.
• Verify work performed aligns with technical specifications, manuals, or other quality verification criteria.
• Use precision measuring instruments, hand and power tools, shop equipment, and machinery as assigned.
• Maintain records and perform related duties.
• Perform cleaning, processing, repair, rework, or modification of engine hardware, tools, and fixtures using hand, power tools, and standard processes.
• Perform functional tests and maintain process controls as assigned.
• Provide materials, hardware, or supplies to in-shop and external operations as required.
• Verify material compliance with specific process requirements, including receiving, storing, disbursing, moving, packaging, and accumulating.
• Report, monitor, and maintain control or status of materials as assigned.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Active Military personnel in the last 180 days before exiting Military Service.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• FAA Power Plant License OR 2 years minimum experience in aircraft power plant maintenance OR 2 years minimum experience as an aircraft aviation mechanic or equivalent in a branch of the military.
• Ability to lift, move, and manipulate fixtures and component hardware up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of basic hand and power tools.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments.
• Experience with computers, applications, and keyboarding.
