About the role
Mild/Moderate Paraeducator Position Purpose
Purpose: Provide instructional support and assistance in meeting the educational needs of students, under the direction and immediate supervision of a licensed school professional. Services provided vary based on Individual Education Plans (IEP) and requirements to provide services in the least restrictive environment.
Responsibilities
- Support instructional program and provide instructional assistance for students in individual, small and large group settings.
- Implement approved modifications and/or accommodations of curriculum.
- Supervise and facilitate student in the classroom and a variety of settings that may include the lunchroom, playground, field trips, extra-curricular activities, on-the-job training.
- Help and support student with special needs which may include emotional issues, self-help skills fine and gross motor, visual, auditory, physical, medical and health needs, educational, prevocational and life skills in a least restrictive environment.
- Collaborate and communicate with other special and regular educators and administrators with regard to academic behavioral issues and observations.
- Provide suggestions, feedback and support to building staff and administrators regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning.
- Aid in data collection, updating records and documentation while helping maintain student files and class records.
- Maintain compliance with confidentiality laws including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Attend and participate in district and building in-service opportunities and committee work.
- Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
- Supervise lunch and recess as assigned.
Requirements
- Proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of childhood development and behavior management is preferred.
- Basic Computer Skills Preferred.
- First Aid, CPR and CPI certification required. (Provided by district)
Qualifications
- Must be able to work well with students and adults in a school setting and demonstrate ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Must be able to work in a one-to-one situation with a student.
- Ability to implement academic curriculum to meet Individual Educational Plan.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Skills
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).

37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day
