About the role

Join a dynamic team as a Middleware Messaging Engineer, focusing on IBM MQ administration within a complex enterprise environment. This role involves maintaining and optimizing critical messaging infrastructure, supporting business applications, and contributing to modernization initiatives such as cloud migration and containerization.

Responsibilities

  • INSTALL, CONFIGURE, and MAINTAIN IBM MQ software (Queue Managers, Clients) on RHEL.
  • PERFORM version upgrades, apply fix packs, and manage patching cycles following security and best practices.
  • CONFIGURE MQ objects, including Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Listeners, Clusters, Topics, and Subscriptions.
  • MONITOR MQ system performance metrics, message throughput, and latency; identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • ANALYZE MQ logs and trace data to optimize configurations and troubleshoot issues.
  • DEVELOP and MAINTAIN scripts (Shell, Python, Perl) or automation tools (Ansible) to streamline routine tasks.
  • RESPOND to incidents, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions, including participating in on-call rotations.
  • DESIGN and IMPLEMENT scalable MQ solutions, including clustering and distributed queuing, to meet business growth.
  • DEVELOP, TEST, and MAINTAIN disaster recovery procedures and high availability solutions.
  • CONFIGURE and MANAGE MQ security, including TLS/SSL, CHLAUTH, and OAM, ensuring compliance with security policies.
  • INTERFACE with IBM support for problem resolution and stay informed on product roadmaps and end-of-support timelines.
  • PARTICIPATE in migration planning to AWS and deployment of MQ in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • DEVELOP and MAINTAIN automation scripts and comprehensive documentation for MQ architecture and operations.
  • COLLABORATE with application developers, system administrators, network engineers, and project managers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience administering IBM MQ in a complex enterprise environment.
  • STRONG understanding of core IBM MQ concepts (Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Clustering, Security).
  • PROFICIENT in administering IBM MQ on Linux or Windows.
  • PROVEN troubleshooting skills for complex MQ issues.
  • EXPERIENCE with scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) for automation.
  • UNDERSTANDING of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancers) related to MQ.
  • AWS experience and knowledge of containerized MQ environments are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IBM MQ on RHEL and cloud containers.
  • Knowledge of advanced MQ features like MQ Appliances, AMS, MFT.
  • Experience migrating or managing IBM MQ in AWS.
  • Hands-on with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Familiarity with IaC tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, Nagios, Prometheus).
  • Knowledge of other messaging systems like Kafka.
  • Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments.
  • 6+ years in middleware design, deployment, and orchestration leveraging Terraform, Ansible, GitOps.
  • 4+ years configuring and troubleshooting proxies on Apigee and Nginx, including API security policies and load balancing.
