About the role

The Kew-Forest School, a PS-12 co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, is seeking an experienced Middle & Upper School English teacher with a strong background in English education. Kew-Forest enrolls a diverse student body representative of Queens and New York City, including approximately nine percent international students. Kew-Forest is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Primary and Middle Years Programs (PYP & MYP). The Middle & Upper School English teacher will teach any combination of Middle & Upper School English courses, including electives such as Creative Writing, and will play a pivotal role in revamping the Middle School English program to align with the IB MYP framework.

Responsibilities

• Teach Middle & Upper School English courses, including potential electives like Creative Writing.
• Revamp the Middle School English program to align with the IB MYP framework.
• Design and deliver engaging, inclusive curricula using project-based learning, inquiry-based practices, presentations, research, and hands-on activities.
• Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners, including ESL students.
• Mentor students and support their learning beyond the classroom.
• Collaborate with colleagues and engage in professional development.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in English (required).
• Experience teaching standard Middle & Upper School English; AP English Language and AP English Literature is a plus.
• Familiarity with and/or certification in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) is a plus.
• Familiarity with and enthusiasm for designing curricula aligned with the IB MYP (preferred).

Pay

Salary range: $60,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with years of experience.
