Overview The Kew-Forest School, a PS-12 co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, is seeking an experienced Middle & Upper School English teacher with a strong background in English education. The Middle & Upper School English teacher will be prepared to teach any combination of Middle & Upper School English courses, including electives such as Creative Writing. Kew-Forest’s Middle & Upper School encompasses Grades 6-12, and our faculty demonstrates a deep understanding of student and curricular development across these grade levels. The ideal candidate for this position will be energetic, creative, imaginative, and thoughtful in their approach to curriculum and pedagogy, and play a pivotal role in revamping our Middle School English program to align with the IB MYP framework, as we enter a dynamic era of Kew-Forest 2.0. The ideal candidate will have or be... Bachelor’s degree or higher in English.Experienced in teaching standard Middle & Upper School English; AP English Language and AP English Literature is a plus.Familiarity with and/or certification in teaching and English as a Second Language (ESL) is a plus.Familiar with and enthusiastic about designing curricula aligned with the IB MYP (preferred).Committed to cultural competency and supporting a diverse student population, particularly through teaching inclusive English.A dynamic and flexible instructor capable of reaching, teaching, and differentiating instruction for a wide range of learners.Dedication to designing courses and learning experiences that engage students through project-based learning, inquiry-based practices, presentations, research, projects, and hands-on activities.Passion for mentoring students and supporting their learning beyond the classroom.Demonstrated commitment to professional development, lifelong learning, and active engagement in English-related fields or professional organizations.Knowledge of current trends in teaching and learning.Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively alongside other teachers.
