Pay
$2,541 per month (includes generous benefits package)
Schedule
40 hours per week on a rotating 4-week cycle:
- Week A: Sunday 12:00 pm–5:00 pm; Monday off; Tuesday 8:30 am–6:00 pm; Wednesday 11:00 am–8:00 pm; Thursday 9:30 am–7:00 pm; Friday 9:30 am–6:00 pm; Saturday off
- Weeks B & C: Sunday off; Monday 8:30 am–5:00 pm; Tuesday 8:30 am–6:00 pm; Wednesday 11:00 pm–8:00 pm; Thursday 9:30 pm–7:00 pm; Friday 9:30 am–6:00 pm
- Week D: Sunday off; Monday 8:30 am–5:00 pm; Tuesday 8:30 am–6:00 pm; Wednesday 11:00 am–8:00 pm; Thursday 9:30 am–7:00 pm; Friday off; Saturday 8:30 am–5:00 pm
Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes; may be asked to work other times as needed.
Responsibilities
- Plan, promote, and present creative programs for children birth through age 12, including story times, homeschool programs, special events, and summer reading activities
- Incorporate Every Child Ready to Read concepts into programs and environments for children ages 0–5
- Prepare deposits and program contracts, request purchase orders, and track program statistics
- Engage the public during community outreach programs at local schools, day cares, or special events
- Maintain an attractive children’s area in the library
- Perform circulation duties: check out, check in, and process new materials
- Participate in Children’s Services Committee meetings, online discussions, and book reviews
- Provide superior customer service assisting patrons of all ages with information requests, reader’s advisory, computers, digital devices, and other library equipment
- Attend regular training related to children’s services and other library work
- Support supervisor directives and assume responsibility for the building and staff in the supervisor’s absence
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience working with children
- Experience working with children from birth through age 12 and knowledge of children’s literature
- Comfortable and proficient using technology
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Creative, flexible, and organized with good time management and attention to detail
- Ability to take direction and work independently or in a team environment
- Interest in STEM programming and Maker Space equipment
- Valid driver’s license with ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
