Responsibilities

• Teach the writing process, including argumentative, informational, explanatory, and narrative writing.
• Explain essay organization, claim-evidence-reasoning structure, and revision techniques to prepare students for state writing assessments and high school readiness.
• Guide students in developing thesis statements, constructing body paragraphs with evidence, writing introductions and conclusions, and self-editing for grammar and mechanics.
• Emphasize authentic writing voice and connect writing instruction to critical thinking, persuasion, and academic communication skills.
• Adapt instruction using graphic organizers, mentor text analysis, and structured peer review to support middle school writers.
• Identify and address common student struggles with organizing multi-paragraph essays, integrating textual evidence, and maintaining focus in longer compositions.
• Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring and accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of middle school writing standards for grades six through eight, including:
  • Paragraph structure and thesis development
  • Evidence integration and grammar/mechanics
  • Research skills and revision techniques
• Ability to teach planning, drafting, revising, and editing across multiple writing genres.
• Skilled at explaining concepts using multiple approaches and adapting instruction to individual learning needs.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Familiarity with common middle school writing challenges and adaptive instructional strategies.
