Responsibilities
- Teach the writing process, including argumentative, informational, explanatory, and narrative writing.
- Explain essay organization, claim-evidence-reasoning structure, and revision techniques.
- Guide students in developing thesis statements, constructing body paragraphs with evidence, and writing introductions and conclusions.
- Support students in self-editing for grammar, mechanics, and research skills.
- Prepare middle school students for state writing assessments and high school readiness.
- Use adaptive instruction techniques, such as graphic organizers, mentor text analysis, and structured peer review.
- Identify and address common student challenges, such as organizing multi-paragraph essays and integrating textual evidence.
- Adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of middle school writing standards for grades six through eight.
- Ability to explain concepts using multiple approaches and adapt to different learning styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Familiarity with common challenges in middle school writing, such as maintaining focus in longer compositions.
- Experience emphasizing authentic writing voice and connecting writing instruction to critical thinking and persuasion.
