About the role

The Collaborative School, a division of The Maine Special Education Mental Health Collaborative, seeks a Middle School Special Education Teacher to join their dynamic team. They are a Special Purpose Private School approved by the Maine Department of Education, serving students in grades K–12 with learning and social-emotional needs requiring a highly supportive, integrated, and trauma-informed educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach academic subjects to students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs within a well-defined behavioral program.
  • Create and implement academic programming tailored to individual students.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers, clinicians, and support staff.
  • Respond to the academic and behavioral needs of students with significant emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Supervise multiple Education Technicians as needed.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible for Maine 282 certification.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively with children with emotional disabilities.
  • Experience teaching students with significant emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders preferred.
  • Experience supervising multiple Education Technicians preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
  • Valid Maine teaching license or eligibility for Maine 282 certification.
  • Experience working with students with emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Experience supervising multiple Education Technicians.
