Middle School Special Education Teacher
About the role
Boyne City Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Middle School Special Education Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This is a new position committed to providing an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of middle school students with disabilities.
- Provide direct instruction and support in various academic subjects, utilizing research-based instructional practices and differentiated strategies.
- Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, parents, support staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive and supportive educational experience for students.
- Foster a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes student independence, self-advocacy, and a love of learning.
- Employ effective classroom management techniques to maximize student engagement and foster a safe, respectful learning environment.
- Integrate technology effectively to enhance instruction and provide accessible learning opportunities.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
- Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school through coaching or supporting student activities.
Requirements
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a K-12 Special Education endorsement.
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of Special Education principles, practices, and legal procedures.
- Proven ability to understand, evaluate, and teach Special Education content, processes, and skills aligned with Michigan's curriculum frameworks.
- Successful experience working with ability-level students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships.
- A commitment to collaboration and working effectively within a team environment.
- Experience integrating technology into instruction to enhance learning.
- Experience with specific special education software and assistive technologies.
- Training or experience in specific evidence-based interventions.
Qualifications
- Special consideration is given to candidates with certifications documenting their skills in working with students with emotional regulation challenges.
