What You'll Do

  • Design purposeful skills-based curriculum, multi-modal instruction, and varied assessments that engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett's core values, mission, and whole child education model
  • Reach a diverse community of learners - academically, culturally, racially, religiously - through intentional, differentiated instruction
  • Develop a classroom culture of belonging where every student feels valued, challenged, and supported
  • Support Every Student
    • Provide regular and timely student feedback, informative parent communication, and unique comments for every student that capture their growth and learning journey
    • Conduct tutorials during scheduled afternoon times (Monday through Thursday) and optional morning tutorials by student appointment
    • Ask for and thoughtfully reflect on student feedback to continuously improve your practice
    • Balance care and compassion with challenge and accountability in engaging students as whole individuals
  • Serve as an Academic Advisor
    • Provide a sustained adult relationship to support students' academic and personal growth in either 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
    • Meet daily with your advisory to open school
    • Serve as primary academic advisor and point of contact for parents
    • Conduct student-parent conferences throughout the year
    • Attend assemblies and chapels with your advisory each rotation
  • Collaborate with Purpose
    • Work in concert with your teaching team, following through on shared plans and commitments
    • Participate actively in faculty, department, team, and grade-level meetings
    • Contribute to a collaborative learning community that values growth mindset and ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
  • Engage in School Life Beyond the Classroom
    • Take part in the life of the School through athletics, fine arts, extracurricular activities, or other Middle School responsibilities
    • Participate in co-curricular activities such as head or assistant coaching, student leadership group sponsorship, travel programs, and more
    • Fulfill additional duties as assigned, including occasional weekend and evening responsibilities (e.g., parent nights, overnight trips and field trips, admission open houses, student or faculty interviews)

    Who You Are

    • Your Education & Experience
      • Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in history or a related field (required)
      • Master's degree and three years teaching middle school preferred
    • Your Approach to Teaching
      • You love working with middle school students and willingly engage them as whole students, balancing care and compassion with challenge and accountability
      • You are self-directed with strong time management skills and the ability to manage concurrent responsibilities
      • You purposefully design curriculum, instruction, and assessment to reach all learners in your diverse classroom
      • You have a strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development
    • Your Professional Qualities
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
      • Commitment to developing your own self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
      • Professionalism, consistent application of school policies, and regular and reliable attendance
      • Dedication to creating a classroom culture of belonging for all students
