Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 5–8) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas for the 2026–2027 school year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Nevada Academic Content Standards.
  • Teach core science concepts including life science, physical science, and earth/space science.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.
  • Foster scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking skills.

Classroom Culture & Student Development

  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Encourage curiosity, exploration, and student engagement in scientific learning.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen instructional practices.
  • Use student performance data to support instructional improvement and targeted interventions.
  • Contribute to school-wide systems focused on student achievement and continuous improvement.

Family Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home–school partnerships.
  • Support family engagement initiatives that promote student success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset.
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment.
  • Successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Nevada state requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching middle school science (grades 5–8).
  • Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments.
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
