Middle School Physical Education Teacher (Probationary)

Position Purpose

An ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards in Physical Education, be student-centered, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and develop good relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

Essential Functions

• Plan, organize, and implement engaging physical education lessons that align with the state and district standards.
• Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship through a variety of activities, including team sports, individual exercises, and wellness education.
• Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
• Foster a safe and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and personal growth.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student success.
• Manage and maintain gym equipment, fields, and other facilities.
• Uphold school policies and promote positive behaviors.

Additional Duties

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

• Bachelors' Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
• Valid NY State Teacher Certification in Physical Education
• Previous teaching experience at the high school level
• Strong knowledge of physical fitness principles, and injury prevention techniques
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills
• A passion for promoting physical health and wellness in adolescents.
