Middle School Mathematics (Anticipated)
About the role
The Mathematics Teacher position at Southeast Polk Community School District serves the Middle School. The ideal candidate must hold a provisional certificate from the Iowa Department of Education and possess a minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet specific assignment needs. Preference is given to those with successful experience at the assignment/subject/level.
Responsibilities
- Instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and more.
- Employ various instructional techniques and media, considering physical limitations and student needs.
- Participate in curriculum writing, staff development, and professional development as required.
- Implement district policies, philosophy, and instructional goals through instruction and actions.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and administer required district standardized tests.
- Diagnose learning needs of students regularly and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Work with teacher aides and volunteers to plan and supervise assignments, and collaborate with the principal and/or department facilitators to monitor their performance.
- Maintain professional competence by attending staff meetings and serving on staff committees as required.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
Requirements
Reports to: Building Principal
Supervises: Students, Teacher Associates and Volunteers as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Provisional Certificate issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
- Minimum BA/BS degree endorsed to meet the needs of the specific assignment.
- Demonstrated proficiency to perform specific assignment.
- Preference given to successful experience at assignment/subject/level.

Pay
Days of employment: 180 student days, 10 in-service days, 5 holidays, 8 hour work day. As outlined in the negotiated SEPEA/Southeast Polk School agreement.

Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal according to the guidelines of the master contract.
