Responsibilities
- Teach foundational middle school math concepts, including integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, order of operations, algebraic expressions, basic equations, geometry fundamentals, measurement, and data analysis.
- Explain number sense, coordinate plane plotting, and mathematical reasoning to build strong skills for high school math and standardized testing.
- Break down fraction operations, proportion problems, and multi-step word problems using visual models and hands-on manipulatives.
- Guide students through pre-algebra concepts, geometric area and volume calculations, and interpreting statistical graphs.
- Emphasize conceptual understanding through real-world contexts like recipes, budgeting, sports statistics, and everyday applications.
- Adapt instruction using concrete-pictorial-abstract progression, interactive activities, and targeted scaffolding to support abstract reasoning and build confidence.
- Identify common student struggles and explain material using multiple approaches to meet individual learning needs.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of middle school math standards for grades 6–8, including fraction division, negative number operations, and solving multi-step equations.
- Ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and student needs.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Familiarity with common challenges in middle school math and strategies to address them.
