Middle School Math Teacher (Gr. 5-8) SY2026-27

Rowe Elementary/Middle School is a standalone charter school with a K-4 campus and a 5-8 campus, located within walking distance of each other in Chicago. As part of the Northwestern University Settlement House, Rowe focuses on creating transformational opportunities for children and families to disrupt generational poverty. Alongside a rigorous curriculum, the school emphasizes social-emotional learning (SEL) to help scholars develop as individuals and master essential subjects.

About the Role

We are seeking a Middle School Math Teacher to provide a rigorous and engaging learning environment. You will develop and implement lesson plans tailored to scholars' interests and strengths, foster a positive classroom culture, and build strong relationships with students. Responsibilities

• Create daily lesson plans that are engaging, educational, and aligned with scholars' interests and data-driven insights.
• Teach scholars in a classroom setting, managing work output and behavior daily.
• Deliver lessons in a way that captures scholars' attention and keeps them excited about learning.
• Reach school and course-wide performance goals for every scholar.
• Stay current with educational methods by joining professional organizations, attending continuing education courses, and participating in training sessions.
• Integrate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that apply to scholars' lives.
• Develop teaching and learning materials, including lesson plans, exams, homework, projects, and assignments that utilize all scholar skills.
• Instruct scholars using discussions, lectures, small group teaching, demonstrations, and other tools to improve subject mastery.
• Modify lesson plans and materials to suit scholars' current learning levels.
• Monitor and track scholar progress, issue grades, and maintain communication with parents/guardians about academic progress.
• Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, special education teachers, and teacher's aids to provide individualized support for each scholar.
• Share best practices and provide feedback with colleagues to ensure scholars meet educational standards and performance goals.
• Work collaboratively with staff to establish and uphold curriculum, school mission, culture, and performance goals.
• Offer praise and encouragement to scholars, fostering resilience and a growth mindset.
• Identify scholars struggling with emotional, learning, or home-related challenges and connect them with necessary resources.
• Enforce school policies, including discipline, dress code, and attendance, using restorative practices and positive reinforcement.
• Maintain relationships with parents/guardians to keep them informed of scholars' social and emotional progress.

Requirements

• Four-year degree and a current Professional Educators License (PEL).
• Completed degree or course of study in a field related to the subject you will be teaching.
• Supervised classroom experience or experience working with children.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced teaching endorsements or certifications (e.g., ESL, LBS1).
• Bilingual (Spanish-speaking).
• Experience working in diverse, urban teaching environments.
