Middle School Math Teacher

About the Role

Reporting to the team lead/elite teacher, the PSOE Classroom Teacher is responsible for direct instruction through curriculum implementation, lesson planning, data disaggregation, and classroom management. Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with individual student Education Plans, Section 504 Plans, and ensuring operational knowledge of best practices in education, state and federal education law, FERPA, FAPE, parent relations, behavioral management, documenting, and reporting.

Middle School Math Teachers (Grades 6-8) at PSOE should demonstrate inspirational and creative qualities in curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, professional responsibilities, professional relationships, family involvement, and school community.

Curriculum & Instruction

• Possess proficient understanding of integrated project-based instruction and the Core Knowledge Sequence.
• Understand the strands, processes, and vocabulary of Everyday Mathematics.
• Understand math content through senior-level math courses and stay current with trends, pedagogy, issues, and topics in mathematics education.
• Comfortable with open-ended math content where students learn through exploration and problem-solving.
• Background in teaching hands-on math programs or demonstrate interest and understanding of such programs.
• Comfortable in student-directed classrooms where students collaborate, converse, and engage in exploration centers through integrated project-based instruction.
• Ability to develop math concepts with manipulatives and math strands through multiple units.
• Willingness to participate in mathematics professional development to enhance instruction.
• Experience or interest in integrating technology tools into the math curriculum and modeling effective use of computers in math instruction.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction in whole-class, small group, and individual settings.
• Utilize data-driven instruction and PSOE educational frameworks to deliver standards-driven instruction.
• Complete assessments, grading, planning, and conferences with students, staff, and families within appropriate timelines.
• Collaborate with team leads, Elite Teachers, Special Education Director, school counselors, and outside agencies to support students with exceptional needs.
• Ensure appropriate classroom implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), IEPs, and 504 programs.
• Complete additional reporting as requested by the Special Education Director or counselor.
• Develop and maintain regular family communication and community partnerships.
• Complete reports and follow-up documentation as required by administration.
• Maintain updated and documented cumulative folders for all current students.
• Contribute to a strong school education team by serving on committees and participating in local operations.
• Act as a professional advisor to the team lead/elite teacher on classroom activities.
• Abide by all PSOE frameworks as approved by the CEO and outlined in the staff handbook.
• Maintain consistent and supportive communication for the classroom as per school frameworks.
• Assume delegated roles for various school functions to manage team workload efficiently.
• Utilize effective systems to troubleshoot problems, track progress, and evaluate workflow components.
• Contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect school priorities in program planning and management.
• Assist in planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.
• Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in compliance with legislation such as FERPA, FAPE, Section 504, and Special Education regulations.

Requirements

• Valid Indiana State Teaching License or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
• Prior successful full-time teaching experience in a similar setting preferred.
• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and production.
• Excellence in organizational management and data disaggregation, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve strategic objectives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in technology.

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment but may occasionally involve field trips. The noise level is usually moderate. The role may require working evenings, weekends, and additional hours for activities such as committees, fundraisers, public meetings, and representing the organization at events.
