Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) is seeking a passionate educator to deliver middle school math instruction in a virtual setting. This role supports students, manages the learning process, and personalizes education to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Personalize learning for all students and maintain high expectations for success.
  • Differentiate instruction based on student mastery levels.
  • Augment course content using prescribed tools and policies under guidance from principal and coach.
  • Maintain grade book, ensure academic integrity, and make student placement and promotion decisions.
  • Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families; communicate regularly with students and learning coaches/parents.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues.
  • Travel as required (approximately 20% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and school functions.

Requirements

  • Active Michigan Teaching Certification with a Math certificate.
  • Must reside in Michigan.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to clear required background check.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9-5 or 8-4).

Qualifications

  • Experience working with middle school-aged students.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment.
  • Experience with online learning platforms.
  • Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions.
  • Receptive to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt for excellent student outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.

Pay

This position offers a base salary around $47,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus.

Schedule

Full-time position, typically 40+ hours per week. Work hours are generally 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
