Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) is seeking a passionate educator to deliver middle school math instruction in a virtual setting. This role supports students, manages the learning process, and personalizes education to meet individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Personalize learning for all students and maintain high expectations for success.
- Differentiate instruction based on student mastery levels.
- Augment course content using prescribed tools and policies under guidance from principal and coach.
- Maintain grade book, ensure academic integrity, and make student placement and promotion decisions.
- Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families; communicate regularly with students and learning coaches/parents.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues.
- Travel as required (approximately 20% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and school functions.
Requirements
- Active Michigan Teaching Certification with a Math certificate.
- Must reside in Michigan.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to clear required background check.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
- Maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9-5 or 8-4).
Qualifications
- Experience working with middle school-aged students.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt for excellent student outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
Pay
This position offers a base salary around $47,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus.
Schedule
Full-time position, typically 40+ hours per week. Work hours are generally 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
