About the Role

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate, data-driven Humanities Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while building strong literacy, analytical thinking, communication, and writing skills. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering a love of reading and writing while preparing scholars for high school through engaging, evidence-based instruction. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction aligned to AMS curriculum frameworks.
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, informational text, argumentative and narrative writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking and listening skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instructional planning and targeted interventions.
  • Prepare students for high school-level literacy expectations through rigorous instruction and critical thinking.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies.
  • Support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Create an inclusive classroom that encourages student voice, collaboration, and respectful discussion.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, English, Secondary Education, Elementary Education, or a relevant content area)
  • Valid Arizona teaching certification in a relevant subject area
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience

Additionally, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset.
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment.
