Middle School Head Boys Basketball Coach
BHASD is seeking a Middle School Boys Head Basketball Coach to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must demonstrate behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The role includes upgrading knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
The success of athletic programs influences the community's image of the school system. While community and parent pressure for winning performance exists, it must not override objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health. The position involves extended hours, risk of injury, and due process considerations.
Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise a total sports program for middle school boys basketball.
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
- Demonstrate and promote behaviors that lead to character development, self-discipline, and confidence.
- Upgrade coaching knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultation.
- Serve as a role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
- Maintain a focus on good sportsmanship and mental health despite community pressure.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Evidence of effective leadership and previous successful coaching experience in basketball.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and willingness to examine new theories and procedures.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Schedule
- Part-time, no benefits.
- Winter Athletic Season: approximately mid-November through mid-February.
Pay
Co-Curricular Stipend: $2,300 per season.
