About the role
The Environmental Charter School is seeking a Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher for the upcoming school year. Successful candidates must have a degree or experience in education, a strong work ethic, and a passion for environmental studies.
Responsibilities
- Create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that employ a variety of teaching strategies, provide meaningful instruction, and maximize time on task
- Structure compelling, standards-based lessons that challenge students' critical thinking and align with lesson, unit, and grade-level objectives
- Infuse joy and rigor in lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
- Regularly evaluate student progress using a variety of assessment methods, including standardized assessments, teacher-designed tests, and samples of student work
- Utilize the Google platform for document development
- Support the development of the 1:1 device implementation for students, including instructing digital citizenship
- Communicate regularly with families to share academic progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Pennsylvania certification in English 7-12
- Meet the appropriate grade level and subject area requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
- Familiarity with charter schools and middle grades students
Qualifications
- Strong teaching abilities
- Understanding of reading and writing pedagogy and instructional practices in middle grades education
- A strong interest in environmental studies

Pay
- Minimum starting salary of $44,716 with consideration given for prior years' professional teaching experience
