Middle School Emotional Support Teacher

About the role

This is a full-time professional (teacher's contract) PASD position with a flexible start date sometime in the 2026‑27 school year, beginning during the school year. December graduates are encouraged to apply now.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in multi‑grade levels in accordance with each student’s IEP goals and specially designed instruction.
• Provide small group replacement instruction in social skills (emotional regulation and affective skills), English language arts, and mathematics.
• Develop collaborative working relationships with staff to support students while monitoring and maintaining positive behavior support plans.
• Supervise and provide instruction for a full‑time paraeducator in the classroom.

Qualifications

• Instructional I/II Special Education PK‑8 (9226) certificate.
• PA Instructional I/II Special Education PK‑12 (9225) certificate.
• PA Instructional I/II Special Education N‑12 certificate.
• Instructional I/II Mental and/or Physically Handicapped K‑12 (9235) certificate.
• Instructional I/II Mentally Retarded K‑12 certificate.
• Instructional I/II Socially and Emotionally Disturbed K‑12 certificate.
• Instructional I/II Emotionally Disturbed K‑12 certificate.

Knowledge of specially designed instruction, the MDE process, proficiency in IEP writing, facilitation of IEP meetings, and ability to work with other professionals (paraprofessionals and related service therapists) in a team setting is required.

Prior emotional support experience and previous school‑setting experience are preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of Verbal Behavior/Applied Behavior Analysis, including behavioral interventions (preferred).
