About the Role

This position delivers the curriculum in both English and Spanish to second language learners in a two-way immersion classroom, using a variety of assessment measures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, teach, and assess all curricular areas as outlined by the Board of Education in both Spanish and English, depending on grade level and language allocation.
  • Apply a deep understanding of second language acquisition and best practices for first and second language learners.
  • Adapt curriculum and language level to meet individual students' needs.
  • Promote cultural awareness through extracurricular family activities.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address learning, behavioral, and health challenges.
  • Maintain organized records and prepare reports of student progress in both languages.
  • Uphold high standards of classroom behavior, cultural sensitivity, and linguistic sensitivity.
  • Administer mandated state and local assessments, including ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, and PARCC.
  • Communicate effectively with parents in both English and Spanish through conferences and other methods.
  • Translate between languages orally and in written form.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and district-wide dual language teams to develop curriculum and advance program goals.
  • Participate in curriculum development, materials selection, and committee work.
  • Increase professional competence through district in-service, professional growth opportunities, and continued university study.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License and Educator License with Stipulations-Transitional Bilingual Educator.
  • Endorsements: Elementary Education (K-9) and Bilingual Education Teacher – Spanish; MS Endorsement in Language Arts and Social Studies (preferred).
  • Fluency and literacy in both English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of elementary curriculum and second language acquisition.
  • Ability to promote and support the dual language program and its philosophies.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, excellent interpersonal communication, articulation, concentration, confidentiality, and organization.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials.

Pay

Compensation follows the Crystal Lake Teachers' Association (CLETA) negotiated agreement. Refer to the 2026-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary Schedule for details.
