We provide a world-class education for students from educationally underserved communities in Lynn and Boston. Our student demographics mirror those of neighborhood schools in terms of race, socioeconomic status, Multilingual Learners (MLL), and students who receive special education services. We promise families that their children will enter college and the professional world academically prepared due to strong literacy, numeracy, and core knowledge in science and social studies. We also ensure students develop the zest for learning and grit necessary to persevere through college and career. Our graduates return to their communities as teachers, leaders, and architects of continued growth.

Who We Are

KIPP Massachusetts began enrolling students in 2004 and currently operates two charter districts: KIPP Academy Lynn Charter School (Lynn, MA) and KIPP Academy Boston Charter School (Mattapan, MA). Each district serves students across multiple campuses by grade span (elementary, middle, or high school).

• Lynn District: KIPP Academy Lynn Elementary (K-4), KIPP Academy Lynn Middle (5-8), and KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate (9-12). Admission to any grade in Lynn is admission to all remaining grades K-12. Student demographics: 74% Hispanic, 15% Black, 3% multiracial, 5% White, and 4% Asian.
• Boston District: KIPP Academy Boston (K-8). Admission to any grade in Boston is admission to all remaining grades K-8. Student demographics: 36% Hispanic, 59% Black, 3% multiracial, 1% White, and 1% American Indian or Alaskan Native.

Across both districts, we serve over 2,200 students. KIPP MA’s Regional Office supports both districts with teams such as Teaching and Learning and Talent and Operations.

KIPP Massachusetts partners with the KIPP Foundation, a national network of 278 college-preparatory public charter schools serving elementary, middle, and high school students. The KIPP Network has a 30+ year track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life. Together, we raise the bar for teaching and learning, ensuring success in one classroom travels across our network to hundreds more.

About the Role

KIPP MA is looking for talented, committed, and culturally competent campus substitute teachers to provide immediate coverage for educators during daily absences and assume the role of Lead Teacher during short-term absences. The Campus Substitute helps ensure students receive consistent and valuable education throughout the school year. This role is ideal for someone considering a career in teaching who wants to explore a variety of grade levels and content areas. At the end of the year, a Campus Substitute may be hired into a variety of roles for the following year, depending on performance.

Responsibilities

Classroom Responsibilities

• Take attendance and submit required daily reporting.
• Execute daily lesson plans consistent with the lead teacher’s guidelines and curriculum to create a cohesive learning experience.
• Adhere to all school policies, including emergency protocols.
• Ensure all children feel affirmed, valued, and challenged every day.
• Foster a positive and calm learning environment.
• Infuse core values into lesson plan execution and school practices, implementing school-wide culture systems and positive classroom management strategies.
• Maintain accurate records and strong communication with students, the absent teacher, and school leaders regarding lessons, classroom culture, student progress, and additional information as needed.

School and Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year.
• Take ownership of your craft and seek feedback from your coach (meet 1x every 1-2 weeks, implement feedback, engage in co-planning, and participate in live coaching).
• Perform support duties including (but not limited to) coverage, bus, lunch, and dismissal duties.
• Develop strong relationships with families through school events and consistent phone calls home.
• Offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues to create a professional working atmosphere conducive to accountability and improvement.
• Collaborate with grade level and content teams to tackle common challenges and implement grade-wide systems, sharing responsibility for all students.

• Physical mobility to execute duties effectively, including kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
• Physical strength to periodically lift and/or carry 20 pounds of materials or supplies and restrain a student in an emergency.
• Manual dexterity to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and operate a computer and office equipment.

KIPP MA teachers are supported by experienced and dedicated leadership and staff who maintain consistent school-wide systems and procedures to permit teachers to do their best work. Occasionally, additional duties may be assigned to promote a positive and safe learning environment.

Qualifications

• Passion for education and commitment to professional learning.
• 2+ years of full-time teaching experience (strongly preferred).
• Computer literacy and baseline familiarity with Google Suite.
• Bachelor’s Degree (strongly preferred).
• Pass Criminal Background Checks.

Benefits

• Minimum salary of $40,000 (per 1.0 FTE/45 hours).
• $1,000 signing bonus and an annual $2,000 retention bonus in subsequent years, plus other eligible bonuses.
