Middle School Band Teacher

About the Role

American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, seeking a full-time Middle School Band Teacher who is committed to academic excellence and student development in a faith-centered environment. This role is designed for an educator who is passionate about helping students grow intellectually, spiritually, and socially while supporting the school's mission and values. The ideal candidate will create a classroom atmosphere that inspires creativity, musical excellence, encourages personal growth, and reflects Christian principles in daily teaching and interactions.

Nature of the Role

This position is considered a faith-forming role within the school community. In addition to providing strong music instruction, the teacher is expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The role requires a teacher who can positively influence students through both instruction and personal example, fostering a classroom culture grounded in faith, respect, and discipleship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• At least two years of teaching experience, preferably within a formal educational setting
• Genuine love for teaching and mentoring youth
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to prepare engaging lesson plans with clear learning objectives
• Commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
• Enthusiasm, consistency, and professionalism in the classroom
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and the use of varied instructional methods to support student learning

Faith and Mission Responsibilities

• Integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate
• Serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students
• Support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues
• Participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities
• Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission

Professional Expectations

Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Bring a warm, energetic, and engaging presence that helps students feel supported, challenged, and inspired
• Demonstrate strong musical knowledge and the ability to teach instrumental performance techniques in a clear, organized, and meaningful way
• Foster creativity, musical confidence, and disciplined practice habits while helping students develop individual musicianship and ensemble performance skills
• Create engaging rehearsals that build technical proficiency, musical expression, teamwork, and performance readiness while maintaining strong pacing, organization, and enthusiasm throughout instruction
• Effectively prepare students for concerts, performances, festivals, and other school music events that showcase student learning and musical growth

Communication and Organization

• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Maintain purposeful classroom routines that support effective learning
• Create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics
• Monitor and communicate student progress consistently
• Coordinate rehearsals and performances
• Maintain collaborative, timely, and positive communication with parents and colleagues
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for supporting student success and maintaining a productive classroom environment

Experience working with students who have specific learning disabilities is considered beneficial but is not required.

Extracurricular Opportunities

Applicants are encouraged to share any interest or experience in supporting AHS extracurricular athletics programs. AHS prefers to fill coaching and activity roles with employees who have both the interest and skills to mentor students in these areas.
