About the role

The Middle School Athletic Coordinator is responsible for organizing and administering the extracurricular athletic activities for middle school students. This includes fostering good school-community relations, scheduling and confirming athletic contests, and ensuring the safety and fair play of all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the organization and administration of the overall program of extracurricular athletics.
  • Foster good school community relations.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm athletic contest transportation requests of coaches.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm games/practices.
  • Maintain master practice schedules, master game schedules, and master transportation requests.
  • Schedule athletic contests in scheduling software.
  • Assign and confirm athletic officials.
  • Reschedule and communicate with athletic assigners and officials.
  • Assign and confirm athletic contest game workers.
  • Maintain master game workers schedules.
  • Develop appropriate rules and regulations governing student conduct during after-school events.
  • Aid in the development of budgets by providing equipment and supply requests when necessary.
  • Arrange details of visiting teams' needs.
  • Create, update, and share site information to visiting teams.
  • Attend and supervise all home athletic contests.
  • Assist with visiting teams' arrival and departure.
  • Assist with athletic officials' arrival and departure.
  • Assist with crowd control and other necessary obligations during the athletic contest.
  • Organize and/or assist with the following events: End of Season Banquets, Back to School Sports Nights, Pre-season Coaches Meetings, and the like.
  • Ability to calculate figures and perform any math functions associated with the position.
  • Ability to apply common sense and deal with problems in a practical and reasonable manner.
  • Ability to apply basic computer knowledge to the activity at hand.
  • Ability to perform duties with all district and Board of Education guidelines and policies in mind.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the activity.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position that may vary widely depending on the activity.

Qualifications

  • Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
  • Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sports offered at the middle school level.
