Middle School Assistant Principal
Job Summary
To assist in providing leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that will promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Essential Duties
- Aid in setting priorities in the context of improving student achievement.
- Aid in articulating and promoting high expectations for teaching and student learning.
- Implement the Leader in Me initiative, MTSS, and student management.
- Inform stakeholders of progress towards the vision and mission of the district.
- Evaluate staff, as assigned, and provide direction for improving instruction.
- Support professional development of staff to improve student learning.
- Develop and revise his/her own professional development plan for continued improved performance.
- Aid the principal in effectively managing policies and procedures according to the School Board and Code of Iowa.
- Work with various building leadership teams.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
- Address problems in a timely manner.
- Afford school equipment and support systems to operate safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Aid the principal in implementing an effective program of student management and welfare.
- Promote and support parent/student/community involvement in the school.
- Share leadership and decision-making.
- Connect students and families to the health, human and social services they need to stay focused on learning.
- Demonstrate ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior.
- Demonstrate values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to higher levels of performance.
- Treat people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect.
- Apply policies and procedures in a fair and equitable manner.

- Provide leadership through assisting in the development of mutual expectations, procedures for working together, and formulating district policies.
- Know and support the building/district school improvement plan and accurately interpret and report progress on goals.
Qualifications
- Must possess the qualifications and certification set by the Code of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education in regard to Administrator and Evaluator License.
- Successful teaching experience.
- Able to assist the principal in leading faculty and staff through first and second order change.
- Able to assist the principal in modeling, implementing, monitoring and evaluating research-based instructional strategies.
- Able to assist the principal in collaborating with faculty, staff, parents and community to provide a quality education for all students, including those from diverse backgrounds and those with special needs.
- Able to assist the principal in using data to drive instruction and professional development.
Knowledge And Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Able to make difficult decisions with a long-term impact on the district.
- Competent in research and information-gathering through technology.
- Broad knowledge of curriculum, assessment, professional development, school improvement, and student achievement strategies.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions
- Amount of Time Physical Activity: Occasionally (1%-32%), Frequently (33%-65%), Constantly (66%-100%).
- Mobility: Bend, Talk, Hear, Operate Computer, Stationary Position, Balance, Lift up to 20 pounds.
- Working Conditions: District Office Hours, Indoors, Weekends/Off Schedule, Temperature Extremes.
Salary
$85,000-$95,000
Benefits
All positions assigned 30 or more hours weekly (typically 6 hours daily) are eligible for a full benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid leave.
