Middle Level ELA Teacher

Lexington County School District One – Certified position, 8 hours/day, 190 days/year.

About the Role

Under general supervision, you will instruct students in one or more middle-level core subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) and assist in other school programs as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Support and uphold the district’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.

• Operate general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee and student information.
• Participate in required professional meetings and training sessions.
• Request and maintain instructional materials; ensure safe storage and proper use.
• Design and facilitate engaging, high-level learning experiences aligned with 21st-century skills.
• Teach concepts and skills based on state standards to foster academic and personal growth.
• Demonstrate and evaluate formative and summative assessments; collaborate to analyze data and develop instructional strategies.
• Collaborate with school and district personnel to evaluate and improve curriculum.
• Prepare lesson plans, activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, and discipline reports.
• Organize classrooms and instructional settings.
• Use personal computing devices and software for student records, instruction, and professional development.
• Meet with parents, administrators, and counselors to discuss student performance, needs, and goals; provide progress reports and suggest interventions.
• Supervise instructional assistants, if applicable, including planning, instruction, and guidance.
• Manage classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable).
• Maintain and inventory equipment; report malfunctions and safety issues.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with student teaching experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Valid South Carolina Teaching License in any applicable area.
• Current government-issued identification.
• Reliable transportation.
• Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, email, spreadsheets, electronic file management, internet, and reporting/presentation software.

Physical Demands

• Classroom work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, listening, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Specific vision abilities: close and distance vision.
• Frequent use of computer monitors and related equipment.
• Occasional irregular or extended hours.

Work Environment

• Noise level varies from quiet to loud depending on classroom activity.
• Conducts duties primarily in a classroom environment; occasional field studies.
• Requires constant attention while working with students.
• Occasional travel; limited overnight travel required.
