As a Middle/High School Science Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment that fosters student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a strong educational foundation.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a program of instruction adhering to CSUSA’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
• Create purposeful and effective lesson plans that maximize time on task and incorporate real-world, application-based examples.
• Review student records to understand individual abilities and needs; maintain accurate and complete student records.
• Maximize educational achievement for each student using varied instructional techniques and differentiated instruction.
• Conduct frequent diagnostic assessments of student learning, provide appropriate activities to address needs, and generate progress reports.
• Refer students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
• Assign lessons, correct student work, and review oral presentations.
• Coordinate class field trips as required.
• Prepare students for state-required achievement assessments.
• Stay current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; contribute to the school’s curriculum improvement.
• Assist in curriculum revision, including updating written courses of study, and in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
• Familiarize yourself with supplemental services beneficial to students as extensions of classroom activities.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Maintain positive rapport with students, demonstrating patience and nurturing to support their growth.
• Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and displays student-generated work as appropriate.
• Implement relevant policies governing student conduct and develop reasonable classroom/playground behavior rules in line with CSUSA policy.
• Develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals, including individual and group learning activities tailored to student needs.
• Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
• Participate in curriculum planning with other staff members and incorporate diagnostic information from students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Take necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities for effective instruction.
• Establish cooperative relations with parents/guardians and communicate clearly, consistently, and positively via appropriate mediums.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and cooperate with administration, staff, and CSUSA.
• Participate in parent communication activities and extracurricular activities to foster a positive school culture and support students and staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
• Valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
• Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Command of grade/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
• Understanding of and commitment to CSUSA’s values.
• Successful results of criminal and employment background check.

Work Environment

• Usual school working conditions, which may be noisy during high student traffic.

Physical Demands

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
• No significant physical exertion required, though the role may be somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.
