Science Teacher - Middle School

About the role
The classroom teacher will create a class environment that implements the district articulated curriculum for their content area, providing positive learning experiences for all students. This includes equipping each student with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self-sufficient, healthy, productive, and socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential. The teacher will establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff members.
Responsibilities
- Document student progress, set appropriate learning goals, design lesson plans, plan activities and outcomes, and address specific educational needs of all students.
- Communicate feedback to students' parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
- Use assessment results to guide and implement differentiated instructional strategies.
- Work collaboratively with staff, attend department meetings, and participate in extracurricular activities where appropriate.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education, coursework, and professional growth activities, including active participation in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.
- Prepare teaching materials and reports to implement lesson plans and document teacher and student progress.
- Implement district-adopted curricula aligned with Washington State Learning Standards.
- Report incidents of child abuse, altercations, and substance abuse to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
- Provide clear and focused instruction using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students.
- Provide ongoing assessment and monitor students to offer feedback on progress, expectations, and goals.
- Establish and maintain a standard of student behavior for an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student growth, progress, and expectations to foster collaboration between home and school.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators, parents, support groups, and community agencies.
- Collaborate with paraeducators, volunteers, and student aides to provide an effective school program.
- Maintain confidential reports, records, and files in compliance with state/federal law.
- Demonstrate sensitivity that affirms individuality and diversity.
- Attend and participate in required staff meetings, professional development, weekly PLC meetings, and enrichment days.
- Educate special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with staff.
- Provide assistance and guidance to students needing intervention or enrichment.

Conditions

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with appropriate educational endorsement.
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement per OSPI.
- Completed employment application and successful background check upon hire.

Schedule
Work Year: 180 days aligned with the academic school calendar, plus 4 Enrichment Days (August 25, 26, 27, 2026, and February 16, 2027).
Paid Hours: 7.5 per day, including a 30-minute duty-free lunch period.
Work day starts 30 minutes before the student bell schedule and concludes 30 minutes after the student day ends at the work location.
Pay
2025-26 OEA Salary Schedule A (includes Base contract and a Professional Responsibility & Enrichment Supplemental Contract (PRESC), at minimum). Will be paid at 2026-27 rates.
